Suurepärane asukoht

Small cabin nestled among pines, cedars and oak trees. Within walking distance of several hiking trails. Easy access to both major climbing areas. Sleeps 6 comfortably, but has enough beds for 10 people.
- Due to the corona virus, we are taking extra care to sanitize all commonly touched surfaces between guests, including door knobs, faucet handles, and counter tops.

Small cabin in the woods that backs onto Strawberry Creek with open wilderness on the other side of the creek. Within walking distance to 3 popular hiking trails and two world-class rock-climbing areas (Suicide and Tahquitz).

It's about two miles from the Idyllwild town-center, which, although small, boasts several fine restaurants, gift shops, and a movie theater. My recommendations for restaurants are:

- Idyllwild Pizza
- Idyology
- Cafe Aroma
- Idyllwild Brewpub

Middle Ridge Winery also has a nice atmosphere for relaxing after dinner.

We're also about a thousand feet higher in elevation, so the weather is several degrees cooler, and we often have snow when the town doesn't.

This cabin is a great place for those who are looking to get away from it all, with small forays into the artsy town of Idyllwild.

The cabin isn't completely in the wilderness, we do have houses on either side of us, but you can walk out the back of our cabin and immediately be in the wilderness. There's a creek right behind us, and there are couple of places where you can cross without too much trouble. The other side of the creek are regular lots, but they've never been developed (yet), so you can just hike around and explore. On the other side of the lots is another road. You can hike up the road to the end, and then explore the woods from there, but don't explore right across the road. You can't tell from the road, but there are some large lots on the other side of the road with houses way back from the road. Those lots are occupied.

There are also three formal trail heads within a half mile of our cabin. The closest is the climbers trail to Suicide rock. The canyon we're in runs roughly north/south. Suicide is the smaller rock face to the west of us, and Tahquitz is the larger rock face to the east. The trail to Suicide is about a hundred yards or so further up Fern Valley Rd. on the left hand (west) side of the road. The climbers trail travels a little ways through the woods to the road on the other side of the creek that I mentioned earlier (I don't know the name of the road, and it's not on (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps). If you want to continue on the trail, you have to walk up the road to the end, and then the trail continues off to the left. When you come back, as you're walking back down the road, look for two yellow posts and a small fire-hydrant, that will be your landmark to tell you to look for the trail back to Fern Valley Rd.

A little ways further up Fern Valley Rd. is the Ernie Maxwell trail. This trail is a little more of a walk to get to, but the trail itself is nice and flat. You again walk up Fern Valley Rd., past the climber's trail, past the water tanks. The road makes a sharp turn to the right, and then kind of a gradual turn to the left. The Ernie Maxwell trail will be on your right shortly after that gradual turn to the left. You can drive to the trail-head if you like, but make sure you park downhill of the trail-head if you don't have an adventure pass. You need an adventure pass to park past the trail-head.

Finally. there is the Devil's Slide trail. This is the main trail that backpackers take to go back into the wilderness. It's about 2 miles of switchbacks up to saddle junction, but after that you're in the Tahquitz valley, which is pretty flat, and there are several trails that you can take to explore around from there.

There are other nice trails in Idyllwild as well. You can go to the ranger station at the corner of Pine Crest Ave. and the 243. They'll have maps of the other areas, as well as a lot of other information.

If you need to buy an adventure pass, which is required to park in certain areas, you can get them at the Chevron station on 243.

There's a pretty decent movie theater in town, if you want to check that out, as well as several restaurants and shops. Cafe Aroma is good, so is the Gastrognome and Idyology. However, if you've got kids and you want to fill them up without spending too much money, you probably want to try out the Idyllwild Pizza Co.

As for shopping, it's hard to say without knowing what you like. My kids like to go to "The Fort" in the middle of town. There's are several shops there, including "Lady of the Lake", which has all kinds of mystical type stuff. There's also another store (I forget the name) that sells really weird sodas, with weird names, that my kids like to get. Some of them taste pretty good, some of them not so much, it's a little bit of an adventure.
