The apartment is located at Porta Maggiore, one of the ancient gates to Rome and an important intersection of ancient aqueducts that once supplied water to the city. The street, Via Casilina, has existed for millennia and once led to the river port city of Casilinum, modern-day Capua, near Naples. You are in a unique and fascinating position in the city, at the convergence of four distinct neighborhoods: Esquilino, one of the Seven Hills of ancient Rome and today home to a vibrant multicultural community; San Giovanni, named after the oldest church in the Western world; San Lorenzo, the only area of Rome to be bombed during the Second World War and today a dynamic university district full of student hangouts; and Pigneto, known as the "Brooklyn of Rome," inhabited by a melting pot of artists, hipsters, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, and working-class Romans.

This is a list of some of our favorite places in and around Rome, presented in no particular order. We purposely excluded the most well-known attractions.
